It all comes down to this: unless something's done soon, some new writers brought in, whatever, the show's going to get cancelled and most of us in the collective House fandom will actually be glad of it. Watching it these days feels like watching someone you love go through a degenerative disease where they're still themselves in moments but so fucking alien in others. I have never seen something go from being so good to so bad in such a short space of time and the entire situation's very depressing. What they're ultimately doing is taking 3D characters and substituing them with new (fellows, anyone?) 2D characters and realising that this means they don't have time for anything close to possible reality, so let's make the main cast 2D too. Fuck it, let's relegate the lead and his sidekicks to two stick men and one stick woman with a tiny stick parasite attached to her hip. It's like those unofficial sequels of classics that some idiot publishes once the original’s gone out of copyright. When I was a child I was once told Conan Doyle's excuse for killing off Holmes was that nobody else could (effectively) crap on his character; it probably had more to do with Watson than little character stealers like ourselves. I am also, actually, thoroughly disgusted with the current treatment of House’s condition. So here we have a guy who suffered both verbal and physical child abuse and as an effect finds trusting people almost impossible. So how do the writers respond to giving him such delicate characteristics? They sling shit in his face. They kill off the man who made his life hell and left no real realisation to it; this could be allowed to pass due to the privacy of the character. But Wilson fucking him over as he has and effectively disappearing from view, and Cuddy using his physical disability to beat him down? Wilson can be forgiven in part for believing he loved someone he barely knew who died, fair enough, that’s his ill-prepared-for-the-world mistake to make; but what does Cuddy have? This woman is supposed to be in charge of a little helpless person and all she’s showing is that she couldn’t give a shit if someone went out and raped her precious daughter and then someone she trusted did all they could to physically and emotionally hurt her for something that isn’t actually anything in her control. I’ve never been Cuddy’s biggest fan but the Cuddy of past seasons would’ve never done that. Even people who hate him (with one exception, gah) have more fucking sense than that. The only thumbs up I can give the idiot excuse for a writer of that episode was the expected personality House reverts to by not fighting back. There’s nothing he can do, anything he does will just make things worse for himself; it was classic signs of a sufferer of child abuse. But, yer know, as long as Wilson can face up to doing the washing up getting us to worry more about him is far more important. THE ONLY REASON WILSON IS HURTING IS BECAUSE HE’S HAD A GOOD LIFE AND THIS IS THE FIRST REALLY BAD THING. Such immaturity shouldn’t be rewarded by trying to manipulate the fans into caring about him and how poor Cuddy’s missing those vital moments in her kid’s life, because we can easily overlook making House such a personal character if we run out of ideas and can’t be bothered to develop any more even though IT’S SO FUCKING OBVIOUS. The people who write this show haven’t got a fucking clue. Every grasp of conversation I see from the producers (which is pretty rare as I’m not one for interviews from anyone) is just as ridiculous and insulting. You can’t bend the characters to do whatever your will wants them too, there’s a reason a writer can’t completely plan, not a writer who wants to touch upon things that effect real fucking people. When you create complex characters who have had serious things happen to them that do happen in the real world your responsibility is given not only to your characters but to those people who it’s happened to as well. You can’t just bring in paper dolls when you get bored. I have contacts, I know people; I am this close to getting someone’s number and giving them a piece of my mind. Oh, that sounds like I’m an axe murderer; scratch that. Maybe I’m just letting everything get too personal. I dunno; but I believe we'll soon need a new obsession. I also wish one my childhood heroes would quit playing along; everyone always used to rave. He’s gotta be smarter than this. The world’s biggest fucking drip.
